Rawkstar Retailer – Theresa’s Country Feed and Pet

Theresa’s Country Feed and Pet was started in early 2019 by Brie and Shawn Connelly. They both have a long history in the pet industry, from retail to distribution to manufacturers with over 40 years of combined experience. They both had always wanted to own a pet store and finally, their dream came true!

Being an integral part of the community is important to us, and we want to offer something for every customer. We do everything we can to keep our prices as low as possible and offer quarterly discounts as well.

I think the first thing that stands out is the sheer size – we have almost 10k sqft of retail space. The other big stand-out is our pallet row, featuring 15 pallets of dog food straight to the back of the store. And then to the right, you see just a massive wall of freezers -14 doors to be exact (7 of which are Northwest Naturals!). You can definitely see the presence raw food has in our store.

As cliche as it sounds, when you shop local you’re supporting an individual family that cares, not a corporation. In our case, you’re helping support Finn’s T-Ball lessons and Ollie’s gymnastics. We truly are a part of our community, sponsoring local schools and events whenever we can. Our customers aren’t just a number to us, they truly matter and our staff forms friendships and bonds with them and their pets. We also regularly donate to the Snowcap Food Bank and have a partnership with Multnomah County Animal Shelter both to help adopt out pets in need and for donations.

The biggest thing we look for with employees is treating customers as family. As I mentioned above, we really do form meaningful relationships with our customers and pets. We try to use our expertise to help out and do what’s best for each individual pet and family.

Our store loves Northwest Naturals! We love that it’s locally made just up the street from the store and comes in at an affordable price point for customers. Our number one SKU sold in the last year is actually the Salmon 2.5oz treats! We’ve sold almost 500 bags in a year. In fact, 3 of the top 5 SKU’s are treats with 1-2″ beef bones, 6# beef nuggets for dogs, 1oz minnows, and 3oz chicken breast rounding out the list. Northwest Naturals is actually a Top 5 brand overall in store, beating out many dog food manufacturers for the spot. Our raw category as a store is up 22% YOY, but NWN is up 73%.
