Happy Rawgust from Northwest Naturals!

August is the month when the pet food industry honors raw feeding for our pets – it’s Rawgust! In celebration, many manufacturers and holistic pet stores have special sales and discounts. Have you checked your local pet store lately for all of the different sizes of our frozen dog foods? We have four size options to choose from, and one is sure to fit your needs.

6# Bag of Frozen Nuggets

Originally, NWN dog diets were sold in a 6# bag of nuggets and this continues to be our best-selling size. These tasty nuggets are approximately an inch square and easily eaten by small to giant breed dogs. The 6# bags fit comfortably into most kitchen freezers, and having two bags open at the same time makes protein rotation simple. However, if you are feeding a Saint Barnard six pounds doesn’t last very long.

5# Frozen Chubs

Our 5# chubs are handy for feeding larger dogs or multiple dogs in your household. These are solid rolls containing the same meat/bone/vegetable recipe as all of our frozen diets. Remember, the size of packaging may change but not the recipe. These chubs are excellent for giant breeds or a household with multiple mid-size dogs.

15# Box of Frozen Nuggets

Next is the newest addition to our size range, the 15# box of nuggets. This is a simple process for people who can quickly count out their dog’s nuggets, thawing individual meals in the refrigerator and putting the big box back in the freezer. The box is bulky and does take up more room in the freezer so is usually bought by people who have an accessory freezer in the basement or garage.

25# Box of Dinner Bars

Probably the most economical size in our frozen food selection is the 25# bulk box of dinner bars. Each box contains twenty-five approximately 1# bars of food. These bars are about a ¼” thick and roughly 5” tall by 12” wide. Again, this is a substantial sized box for your freezer. This is what I always used when raising my AKC Bullmastiffs and they did phenomenally well on all of the NWN recipes. A 1# bar might sound unwieldly if you have small or even medium-sized dogs, but the bars are scored into quarter pound sections, making them easy to break apart for smaller meal portions. A savvy customer who raises Pomeranians always buys the 25# dinner bar box, breaks them into appropriate meal sizes and chuckles because she is getting the best buy for her little dogs.

Freeze-Dried Diets

While serious raw feeders usually choose to feed fresh or frozen raw diets, many people prefer the convenience of our freeze-dried diets, and they do have some advantages: freeze-dried diets are shelf stable, easy to travel with and come in exactly the same great flavors as our frozen diets (with the exception of Trout and Bison & Beef which are not available in freeze-dried form). The freeze-dried diets are in nugget form so can also be used as treats and for training. There is no better treat to use when housebreaking or crate training a puppy. Puppies need especially nutritious treats for their growing bodies, but regular cookie-type treats are not nutritionally balanced and often contain questionable ingredients. A freeze-dried NWN nugget is nutritionally balanced and loaded with bio-available ingredients that help your pup’s body to grow, plus they are yummy! Using NWN freeze-dried nuggets for meals as well as treats is a win-win situation for your dogs. Many dogs doing highly rewarded performance work are fed NWN freeze-dried diet nuggets as treats during trials to keep them strong, motivated and healthy. They are considered a premium treat as well as a premium breakfast and dinner with all of the crucial raw enzymes fully intact.

HAPPY RAWGUST from everyone here at Northwest Naturals!
